The Pekin or White Pekin is an American breed of domestic duck, raised primarily for meat.Although a Pekin Duck eggs can be eaten, this type of duck is primarily used for meat. Pekin grow very quickly and can weigh between 2.5 Kgs and 3.5 Kgs at 9 weeks of age.Pekins begin laying eggs at 26-28 weeks of age and can be kept economically until about 40 weeks, when they will have laid about 160 eggs. Egg production and overall performance are best if breeding ducks are kept together in groups no larger than 250 birds.Pekin Ducks range in weight from 3.5 Kgs to 5.5 Kgs.Pekin Ducks seldom raise a brood because they are poor setters. Eggs from Pekins are normally incubated in a machine and will hatch after approximately 28 days.
